When wanting to keep a backup I recommend:
-
Use the ‘Add based on this ….’ function, and give it a backup name
-
Continue using the original, and make necessary changes to the original
-
This means that all existing configurations should work - if you need to rollback then copy the changes from the backup (if this is content) or alternatively roll back the changes by using the original.
When thinking about a backup name it can also be useful to add a date to any backups you create - as the next time you create a backup it will be tricky to work out which you should revert to if you need to roll-back the changes.
Another way to quickly roll back to the original configuration is to open a new browser tab, edit the original record, eg field or form, and leave it open in edit mode. Editing the original record in another browser tab and save the changes, test the functionality, if it works as you expect close the original record. If your new configuration is not as you expect save the original record which will over-write all changes you made in the original tab (with the original configuration).
